Raven Strategy

Navigating Growth with Precision Strategy

Raven view Strategy as the bedrock for all growth and wealth creating activities, including transactions. We specialise in providing strategic reviews designed to understand the business and shareholders objectives and provide a long-term strategic plan that can guide the Board on that pathway. We partner with the Directors and Shareholders, enabling them to stand back and evaluate where the company needs to go to meet those objectives. Our comprehensive approach has been utilised with a significant number of companies over the years, unlocking growth and transactional activity.

The Corporate Strategic approach is bespoke, but can consist of the below, ultimately resulting in a Strategic Planning exercise being undertaken.

Our board strategy day workshops are designed to guide companies towards defining and achieving their strategic objectives while navigating potential risks. Our workshops are tailored to empower leadership teams in crafting a robust strategic roadmap for the business.

The strategic options review provides a comprehensive summary of insights derived from the Board Strategy Day. It highlights the various strategic pathways open to the company, along with recommended next steps for pursuing these options, whether through organic initiatives or strategic transactions.

The review serves as the initial phase in initiating a strategic planning process within the company, aimed at exploring potential exit strategies for existing shareholders as part of its evolution.

The review will focus on growth opportunities and transactional strategies, prioritising shareholder wealth creation at its core. We are positioned to provide comprehensive support throughout the entire process, from identifying opportunities to executing operational implementation strategies, undertaking transactions and the financial planning and management of the wealth created.

We have worked with a wide range of companies and management teams on their medium to long-term growth plans; principally with a view to “identifying the optimal structure to allow the business to grow under the strategic management of the Board of Directors.”

The following areas of strategic importance are normally considered:

  • What are the medium to long-term aspirations of the Shareholders and under what timeline.
  • Is the business focused on an exit event?
  • What changes, if any, need to be implemented in order to maximise value?
  • Do the Board of Directors and Senior Management Team have the capacity to achieve the strategic goals or are there roles that will need to be filled.
  • Is the business optimised to provide a healthy return to shareholders while also being ready for potential growth or an exit?
  • To what extent will growth or diversification be delivered through organic or acquisitive growth and are the structures in place to support such growth; and
  • Have taxation, commercial and operational factors been considered in determining the optimum corporate structure.

Either as a standalone report, or as a precursor to making an acquisition, raising growth capital or developing an operational plan, our strategic review generally covers:

Parallel to the corporate strategic planning of a business, we believe that a shareholder financial review is critical prior to the planning of growth or for the preparation for a transaction or exit. This often serves as a measure of what success looks like in terms of growth or transactional activity. These reviews serve as a comprehensive examination of the financial health and investment objectives of the shareholders, allowing us to gain insights into their financial circumstances, goals and risk tolerances.

  • Identify and understand the shareholders’ objectives
  • Undertake a Shareholder’s Cashflow Analysis
  • Start by engaging with the shareholders to understand their financial objectives and goals. Conduct comprehensive discussions to ensure we have a clear understanding of their financial aspirations
  • Assess current financial situation
  • Evaluate each shareholder’s current financial situation, including income, assets, liabilities, and existing investments. This helps us understand where they stand financially and what resources are available for achieving their goals
  • Risk tolerance and time horizon
  • Determine the shareholders’ risk tolerance and investment time horizon. Some shareholders may be more risk-averse, while others are comfortable with higher levels of risk
  • Understand each shareholder’s personal aims, and design customised financial plans based on these goals. These plans should outline specific strategies and actions to achieve their financial objectives
  • Establish a schedule for regular reviews and monitoring of the financial plans and investment portfolios. Regular communication with the shareholders is crucial to keep them informed and involved in the process
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping
  • Maintain detailed records of financial plans, product selections, and all communications with shareholders
  • Bespoke product selection and allocation where we choose financial products and investment instruments that align with the shareholders’ objectives and risk profiles
  • We undertake regular review and monitoring procedures
  • Assistance with the implementation of tailored financial products to support the financial plan or specific events:
    • Retirement Planning
    • Pensions
    • Insurance
    • Mortgage
    • Investments

Strategic planning is the cornerstone of long-term success and sustainability for any organisation. It involves the formulation and implementation of strategies that align with the overarching goals and objectives of the business. Through strategic planning, organisations can effectively allocate resources, optimise performance, and ultimately drive sustainable growth and value creation for shareholders. Raven also believe this activity should be undertaken parallel to a shareholder financial review process.
